Michelle Rose at Minka Fine Flowers (formerly Blooms) and I wanted to create the feeling of being inside a conversatory in the middle of Winter...that warm, verdant, steaming idea of flowers in bloom on a cold Winter´s Day. Michelle wanted rich brocades, dark palettes of red & black, modern pops with gold bold patterns...hint of art deco. She was also inspired by the Fall & Winter 2015 collections of haute couture designers...using butterflies and lush florals and deep reds, pinks--but with a modern twist.
Andrea´s Bridal provided the uber romantic pink flowing wedding dress...how can we not have fun with this idea? We mingled this light as air pink palette with rich, deep red velvets to give it a little edgy twist. Styling makes a huge difference for your look--whether it be a real wedding day or an inspiration shoot.
Jacki Norrie of Tresses and Nicole Masterson of Just Bee got the look just right...creamy complexions, dark lips, romantic loose up do--but all feels very modern and now. It´s fun to think outside the box sometimes...we wanted our bride to be gorgeously romantic...lost in the fantasy of a garden scene in the dead of winter.
Jen & Rachel over at Clay Hill Farm were our original inspiration--we all agreed it was time to think about Winter weddings in Maine. Michelle and I were inspired by the rich, old world colors and textures of the venue. We had never seen a Winter wedding there--so we really got to play and rethink the entire space. We decided to turn the fireplace area into the ceremony area--with an amazing view of the bird sanctuary outside.
Ellen Braley of El´s cards and Gus & Ruby provided the art deco and inspired stationery. Personal touches like hand done calligraphy add a special, personal touch. Gayle Forte at Let Them Eat Cake created the gorgeously rich cake design...people comment on that cake all the time--it worked perfect in our theme.
Our models, Zoe & Bear, added an extra rich dimension--as they were engaged at the time. They graciously allowed us to play dress up--and we all had fun with it.
We´re so lucky to have all this talent right in our Southern Maine backyard! We assembled another dream team for this shoot...and WellWed magazine decided to pick it up in a 4 page spread in their 2015 edition. See below for all the details.

I personally love Winter weddings in New England. The quiet and cool serene landscape inspires me--and plus, everyone is ready to whoop it up in those long Winter nights. My nephew Greg and his new bride Abbey pulled off the most glorious day. The peacock blue palette and woodland details complimented the NH Lakes region in Winter perfectly. They were the most gracious hosts too...styled everyone out all weekend long. I couldn´t imagine a more perfect spot for a wedding anytime of year than Church Landing.
Hope you enjoy a peek at their day. Details to follow...

Michelle Rose of Minka Fine Flowers (formerly of Blooms) and I designed a 4 part seasonally inspired fantasy wedding photography shoot for Seacoast Weddings Magazine called Welcome to Greenlandia. We made the name up as a joke on Portlandia, but the name kept growing on us and eventually took on lots of meaning for the team. It was a fairy tale land where all of the creative wedding artists involved could explore, dream, play. It culiminated in a 16 page feature for the 2014 edition of the magazine. See the entire spread in link below.
Our inspiration was a modern riff on Scandinavian meets Americana. We wove creams, oranges, greens throughout the entire series. I purchased the thick cable wool shrug at Anthropologie way back in December 2012--and it became the seed of the entire series...wools, unexpected textures, fur, bark, cut outs, non-traditional details--all with a modern, mostly American twist.
We used a fire and ice theme for this Winter concept...cozy cabin for two, Winter Solstice wreaths, antlers made of bark, leathers, wools, cables, piping hot white chocolate toddies and frozen champagne. We also wanted to work different metallic sheens into the entire series--the Winter one had silver, gold, and copper. Erin Gardner took inspiration from the knit shrug and created the perfect Greenlandia modern cake.
Michelle brought on Murray from Wicked Good ice Carving to make a table, pedestal, and champagne bucket--all out of ice. Our team for this shoot set the standard very high for all the subsequent shoots! Please check out their work below and consider them to create the wedding of your fantasy too. Have fun with it...break some molds...put your stamp on your day. Thanks for taking a peek!

I loved Katie & Mike´s warm late September wedding. It was that kind of iconic, unforgettable type of day that lingers long in your memory--literally not a cloud in the sky, high 70´s temps, not yet Fall but not Summer, crisp light--and the most amazing sunset I think I´ve ever seen. But mostly, it was Katie & Mike that made an impression. So sweet and laid back...soaking up every single moment--they really cared for each and every guest. They had a beautiful palette with shades of violet and lavender.
Melanie Voros and team at Blissful Beginnings are such a pleasure too--attending to every moment and detail so that Katie & Mike were able to just sit back and enjoy their once in a lifetime day.
Bravo Katie & Mike! We really enjoyed you and your day. We wish you both all the best.

This couple had us mesmerized all day! Kelli Wholey of Lumina NH was second photographer with me, and we could not believe the perfect the day Melissa & Adam had. It was the last official weekend of Summer...and the grapes were almost bursting in the warm September sun. So many sweet details...elegant bride, smiley groom (we had to really try to stop Adam from smiling all day!!), the heirloom veil and jewelry, the antique typewriter and key bottle openers. We also loved their fresh yellow and blue palette...it felt like a very natural, organic day--nothing rushed, every moment savored--including the gelato stand by Gelato Fiasco! Sparklers created a festive final hoorah for this sweet couple. Congratulations Melissa & Adam!

Haley and Dave had the perfect blend of romantic and rustic at their Flag Hill Winery wedding. And some chickens from down the road had to be shooed away before the nuptials could begin--which charmed everyone. Their love story comes through..especially capturing Dave´s expression as he saw Haley for the first time on their wedding day--magic moment. Congratulations to both of you--amazing day!!

Bailee & Alex had a romantic day at the charming Chebeague Island Inn. Love the glamour meets seaside look and feel of their intimate wedding. Bailee´s bouquet was a show stealer too. This couple lives in West Virginia--and fell in love with the Maine coast as a get away wedding destination. Marina DeMarco captured the beauty of the day. Congratulations Bailee & Alex!
